Penn High School Spell Bowl team achieves another perfect score

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- For the second time in five outings this fall, the Penn High School Spell Bowl team achieved perfection with a score of 90 at the Kouts Invitational on Monday night.

Earlier the Kingsmen tallied a 90 score at the Lakeland Invitational.

Overall this season, the win at Kouts was Penn's fifth victory in five competitions.

It is believed there have only been about 40 perfect 90's in Indiana high school Spell Bowl history and Penn now has 28 of them.

Perfect varsity spellers for Penn were: Maddy Anderson, Alex Cao, Christy Chang, Austin Heckaman, Leah Hershberger, Yifei Hu, Jenny Huang, Richard Jung, Josh Rajkumar and Sheena Shah.

Perfect junior varsity spellers for the Kingsmen were: Nitin Arora, Nisha Bhatt, Alec Jacobs, Marija Lapkus, Nithin Varadharajan and Disha Waghray.

Next up for the Kingsmen is the Garrett Invitational on Wednesday, Oct. 5.
