Penn High Spell Bowl squad wins second-straight invitational title

WINAMAC, Ind. -- Penn High School's Spell Bowl squad raced to its second invitational title of the young season on Thursday night, overpowering the rest of the field at the Winamac Invitational.

The Kingsmen scored 89 out of a possible 90 points to finish far ahead of the host Warriors who finished second with a score of 38. 

Here are the final standings and scores:

1. Penn 89
2. Winamac 38
3. Morgan Twp. 34
4. Benton Central 31
5. Kouts 31
6. Longansport 30


Perfect varsity spellers for the Kingsmen were:  Leah Hershberger, Nitin Arora, Disha Waghray, Austin Heckaman, Josh Rajkumar, Marija Lapkus, Nisha Bhatt, Richard Jung and Jenny Huang. 

Perfect junior varsity spellers for Penn were: Alec Jacobs, Presto George,
Peter Jung, Chris Yun, Kanika Arora and Max Kirsch. 

The next competition for Penn will be the Penn Invitational on September 27 in the Penn High School cafeteria.  The public is invited to attend and there is no admission charge.
