Person of interest in Benton Township shooting killed in officer-involved shooting in Texas

BENTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. - A man identified as a person of interest in a shooting at Briarwood Apartments in Benton Township on December 17 was killed in a shooting in Texas on Monday, according to the Benton Charter Township Police Department.  

Police agencies in Texas confirmed 32-year-old Michael Delaney was involved in an officer-involved shooting in Weatherford, Texas, and died from his injuries.

On December 17, police were called to the apartment complex in the 1900 block of Union St., where they found 30-year-old Melissa Noles suffering from multiple gunshot wounds lying in the walkway of the complex.

Police determined Noles may have had a previous relationship with Delaney, according to reports.

The investigation into Noles' death is still ongoing and is being treated as a homicide.
