Person shot, killed in neighborhood near Ardmore Trail, suspect in custody

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - Police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened just after 2 a.m. Wednesday in a neighborhood just west of the South Bend City limits

The shooting happened on the 55000 block of Hollywood Boulevard, near Ardmore Trail, at what police believe was a 4th of July party.

St. Joseph County Police say a male victim has died.

CMHU confirms a 17-year-old is in custody, but the suspect's name is not being released because of the person's age.

Metro Homicide interviewed several people and served four search warrants as part of the investigation.

Neighbors in the area say they can't believe a deadly shooting happened in their neighborhood.

“I woke up at three and saw some flashing lights off the neighbors barn. Started looking around and saw all the police cars," said Greg Kaniewski.

“Shock!" said Teresa Atkins. "It was total shock.”

Neighbors are upset the  deadly shoot out is making noise on the quiet street, but say they won't let this incident scare them.

“It’s not the same age or time that I grew up in," said Atkins. "We just didn’t do that.”

I think it’s an unfortunate incident but I think it’s an isolated incident," said Kaniewski. "I don’t think we have anything to worry about."
