Pet food manufacturer fined $27,500 by IOSHA

ELKHART, Ind. -- The Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration fined an Elkhart pet food manufacturer $27,500 for allegedly failing to develop procedures related to the operation of equipment.

IOSHA conducted an inspection at the Corwin Road facility on July 15, 2019. During the inspection, officials noted there were no energy control procedures for a mixing system auger, which exposed employees to 'caught-in' hazards.

The company has until September 11 to develop new procedures.

The company can also appeal and the fine may be reduced by the state.
