ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – A Drop2Stop pill disposal box was unveiled inside the St. Joseph County Jail recently by Sheriff Bill Redman and Becky Savage of the 525 Foundation.

The drop box is part of an initiative to dispose of excess pills/medication that might end up in the wrong hands.

"The drop box is available in the lobby for the public to use anytime. One of our officers who also works for the Drug Enforcement Agency will be responsible for emptying the drop box and getting the medications properly disposed of by the DEA," Sheriff Redman said in a press release.

There are 10 other drop boxes in the Michiana community, and they are all located at Martin Supermarket stores.

Savage said that the boxes are great way of combating the opioid epidemic.

"When you drop, you stop misuse and abuse in our community. When you drop, you stop senseless deaths,” Savage said.
