Plane makes emergency landing in field off US 421

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- A small plane made an emergency landing in a field off US 421 in Wanatah Monday afternoon, according to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched to the area of US 421 and CR 1100 south around 12:45 p.m. for reports of a plane down in the area.

When deputies arrived, they found the airplane upright, approximately 300 yards east of US 421.

The pilot of the 1965 Piper Twin Comanche reported the engines failed. He and his passenger were not injured.

The National Transportation Safety Board will continue the investigation.
