Plenty of kitties up for adoption
MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Spring is in the air and so are the kittens.
This time of the year is a problem for the Saint Joseph County Humane Society as they are overrun with cats.
Right now there are more than 400 cats housed at the shelter. The adoption room is packed with 100 cats. The remaining cats are housed in an overflow room waiting for space.
"With having so many cats it does put stress on the animals that are here because there are so many of them, and also just stress on the shelter for having to keep up with feeding, cleaning, and taking care of those pets," Genny Carlson of the Humane Society of Saint Joseph County said. "The more homes that we have for them, the better, and we'd like to get them home faster, sooner than later."
All of the cats are fixed and micro-chipped. For the month of June, there are discounts available on adoption fees. For more information, visit the Humane Society's website.
