SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi and Four Winds Casino gave out free meals on Tuesday to families in need so that the community can celebrate Thanksgiving.
This is the seventh year that they have held a food drive on Thanksgiving. Over 1200 meals were handed out.
The meal includes a turkey, stuffing, potatoes, and a pumpkin cake.
"Each of those meals can feed about a family of five,” Scott Brewer said, VP of Community Relations for Four Winds Casinos, “so there’re roughly six-thousand meals that we're going to be handing out throughout this part of the Michiana region. On behalf of the Pokagon Band and the Four Winds Casino, it's just a pleasure to be able to do this and be a part of the community."
Cars lined the block all the way to Sample Street for a chance to receive a free meal.
In roughly 30 minutes, over 162 turkeys were given out.
