ELKHART, Ind.—Police investigated a “suspicious device” found at the county landfill on October 24.

On October 24, police responded to the Elkhart County Landfill around 9 a.m. after an employee reported finding an item that “resembled a grenade.”

Police contained the device and closed off the area.

The Elkhart City Police Department’s EOD team was called in and upon further investigation, found the device to be inactive. It did not contain any explosives, according to police.

There is no threat to the public, the sheriff’s office said.
