Police investigating alleged crash involving Ligonier bicyclist

NOBLE COUNTY, Ind. – A vehicle crashed into a bicyclist on River Road near Ligonier on Friday, according to the Noble County Sheriff’s Department.

58-year-old Charles Schlemmer of Ligonier was riding his bicycle down River Road when he was allegedly struck by the 2017 GMC U-Haul van of 45-year-old Ryan Gravit of LaGrange.

Schlemmer sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Parkview Regional Medical Center.

Gravit’s U-Haul was located in Ligonier after it was seen leaving the area of the crash.

Police arrested Gravit for Operating While Intoxicated Causing Serious Bodily Injury, a Level 4 Felony.

The incident remains under investigation.
