Police investigating hit and run crash involving 17-year-old bicyclist

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind.—Police are investigating a hit and run crash that sent a 17-year-old bicyclist to the hospital early Tuesday morning.

According to police, around 4:30 a.m., a vehicle was traveling southbound on C.R. 7, north of C.R. 2, when it struck 17-year-old girl from Nappanee, who was riding her bicycle in the same lane.

When police arrived at the scene, the vehicle was not there.

Witnesses on scene describe the vehicle as a maroon Chevrolet Impala. Police presume that the vehicle has front-passenger side damage.

The victim, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was airlifted to a hospital for treatment of her injuries. Police did not release her condition.
