Two dead in shootings at two separate locations in Elkhart

ELKHART, Ind. – Two people have died in two separate shootings in Elkhart, according to Elkhart Police.

At 12:36 p.m., police were called to the 2900 block of Pleasant Plain Avenue for a domestic situation.

Police found a woman dead at the scene.

There was no suspect at the scene when police arrived.

At 12:38 p.m., a second call came from a KFC in the 2700 block of South Main Street, where a man was found behind the building with a gunshot wound.

“Within minutes after receiving that first phone call, dispatch received a phone call of a male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds behind the Kentucky Fried Chicken at 2709 South Main Street. Officers were dispatched to the scene and arrived. When they arrived, the male was treated and taken to the hospital. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital," said Jessica McBrier of the Elkhart Police Department.

He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation.

“The Elkhart County Homicide Unit has been activated per protocol to handle the investigation from here. They are interviewing any and all witnesses collecting evidence and they’ll be releasing further information as it’s available," McBrier said.

There is no immediate danger to the public.

Investigators have not confirmed if the two shootings are related.
