Police investigating robbery, shooting at Ameriwood

DOWAGIAC, Mich.—Police are investigating a robbery and shooting that took place at Ameriwood on Monday night.

Officers with the Dowagiac Police Department were dispatched to Ameriwood around 10:10 p.m. on Monday for reports of a male gunshot victim.

Officers located the victim inside of the building, being treated by other employees at Ameriwood.

During the investigation, police identified the victim as a 21-year-old man from Hartford who works for Ameriwood.

The victim told police that he was followed into the parking lot by a dark colored SUV type vehicle when he arrived for his shift.

The victim was then approached by a person from that vehicle who pulled out a gun and attempted to take his money.

Four additional people emerged from the vehicle and approached the subject.

Following a struggle, the victim was shot several times as he attempted to run away.

The suspects took the victim’s vehicle and left the parking lot.

Officers later found the victim’s vehicle as well as the suspects’ vehicle outside of Dowagiac with no one in them.

The victim was taken to Memorial Hospital and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The suspects are described as five black males, approximately 18-20 years old. The suspect with the gun was described as wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt and dirty blue jeans.
