Police investigating two separate, fatal bicycle accidents in Elkhart County

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – Police are investigating two separate, fatal accidents involving bicyclists in Elkhart County.

The first accident happened on County Road 17 at the U.S. 20 bypass just after 3:30 Thursday morning.

Officers say 60-year-old Raymundo Macjado Sabag was riding southbound, on his way to work when he was struck and killed by a vehicle also heading southbound. The vehicle then fled the scene prior to police arrival.

According to police, riding to work is a daily routine for Sabag. He did use all necessary safety precaution and the family has been notified.

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department is investigating that accident as a hit and run. They are asking the public for any helpful clues.

Police are not sure of the make and model of that vehicle, but they say it should have front end damage.

The second accident happened just after 6 Thursday morning on County Road 20 and the U.S. 20 bypass.

Two byclists in their late teens were riding westbound when they were struck by a vehicle. One was killed and the other was taken to the hospital. No word yet on the extent of the victim's injuries.

That accident was not a hit and run. No word yet if charges will be filed against that driver.
