Police: Man killed in crash after getting flat tire on I-465

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—A man was killed in a crash after he got out of his vehicle because of a flat tire on I-465 on Wednesday morning.

Police said that emergency crews responded to reports of a serious crash just after 5 a.m. on Wednesday in the southbound lanes of I-465.

First responders arrived to find a man in the roadway unconscious and unresponsive.

The man was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said.

According to investigators, the man had gotten out of his vehicle because of a flat tire on an extension of the emergency shoulder between I-465 and Washington Street when another vehicle crashed into his car.

The man was hit as well, police said.

Officers on scene do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash but due to protocol, all drivers involved will be tested.

The incident remains under investigation by the Indiana State Police.
