Police provide update on 3-year-old shot on Monroe Street

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety provided an update on the condition of the 3-year-old girl who was shot in the arm while in bed. The bullet came from outside the house.

The girl is in stable condition and doing well, police said.

She had surgery on her right arm to repair damage from the gunshot wound.

She is scheduled for a second surgery to repair damaged nerves in her arm.

Her family is optimistic for her recovery.

The girl was shot just after 4:30 a.m. Saturday while in her bed in her house in the 800 block of Monroe Street.

Police said the house had multiple bullet holes.
