ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. — St. Joseph County Police say a woman is dead and a man is injured after a shooting early Saturday morning.
Police say they responded to a disturbance. When they arrived they found 25-year-old Maximillian Kleiman of South Bend with a stab wound. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay.
After investigating, they heard they may be a second victim. Police went to Woodrow Wilson Primary Center on Oak Road. They found a woman dead near the building.
The deceased victim was identified as 23-year-old Jessica Yost of South Bend.
Police say the school has been told about the situation.
The South Bend Community School Corporation released a statement to ABC 57 News saying, “We were shocked and saddened to learn of a tragic incident which occurred early this morning near Wilson Primary Center resulting in the death of a young woman. We extend our condolences to the family. Although this matter was not related to the school or any school personnel, we are cooperating with law enforcement as they continue their investigation. School will be open Monday morning and will operate on a normal schedule. We will have additional supports on hand to assist, if needed.”
*Correction: The original web story incorrectly stated the man was shot but according to Bill Thompson he was stabbed. As corrected above, both had stab wounds.
