Eau Claire High School secure, alleged threat was a false call
The Berrien County Sheriff's Department says the alleged threat at Eau Claire High School Friday afternoon was a false call.
Someone called 9-1-1 around 3:55 p.m. and told dispatchers there was a teenaged male in the bathroom of the high school with a rifle.
The male caller didn't identify himself and said his phone was losing power.
The Eau Claire Police Department, Berrien County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Berrien Springs/Oronoko Township Police Department and Medic One Ambulance all responded to the high school.
Officers searched the building but did not find anyone with a gun.
Students and staff were escorted out of the building so parents could be reunited with their children.
Anyone with information as to the identity of the caller is asked to call (269) 983-3060.
The sheriff's office stated in the release, "We are glad that this incident is not what was originally reported and are pleased at the cooperative response by all the agencies involved. Officers responded as trained and law enforcement personnel appreciate the patience of the parents and other adults that were on scene waiting to be reunited with the students and staff that were in the school."
