Police say attempted abduction report was false

BRIDGMAN, Mich. -- Bridgman Police say the attempted abduction that was reported on April 9 did not happen.

An 11-year-old girl reported a man in a black car approached her near the Toth Park area and asked if she wanted a ride. She said when she refused, the man got out of the car and grabbed her by the arm.

Police received numerous tips and conducted several interviews during the investigation.

When police re-interviewed the girl, she admitted she made up the story because of an unrelated disagreement with a friend, police said.

A report will be forwarded to the prosecutor's office to determine if the juvenile will face charges for filing a false report.
