Police seeking man who allegedly shot his girlfriend

DOWAGIAC, Mich. -- Police are asking for the public's help in locating a man who allegedly shot his girlfriend outside a business on Spruce Street Saturday evening, according to Dowagiac Police.

Around 10:30 p.m., police were dispatched to the 900 block of Spruce Street for a shooting.

When officers arrived, they located a 33-year-old woman with a gunshot wound.

She was transported to the hospital in serious condition.

She is expected to survive. Her name has not been released.

The victim was driving her vehicle through the parking lot when her boyfriend, Robert J. Smith III, shot several rounds into her vehicle, according to police.

Smith then fled the area.
