The entire Goodhue, Minn. police force is leaving and they're not the only ones with shortages.
Officers were having disputes over pay and after their police chief resigned late last week, they decided to leave too.
"We were really just there for him more so than needing a part-time job," said a part-time officer.
Business owners and residents are apprehensive about the lack of police in the area, even though Goodhue County might step in.
According to a survey released in April, police departments saw more than 47 percent resignations and 19 percent more retirements in 2022 compared to 2019.
In Indiana, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is still 322 officers short--after swearing in 33 new recruits this month.
The Michigan Association of Chief of Police reports more than 1,000 officers left their jobs since 2020.
