Police standoff prompts evacuations in South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- After several hours, a police standoff ended around 6 p.m. on Wedensday.

Police evacuated homes because of a standoff near the intersection of Ewing Avenue and Kendall Street.

According to a neighbor who watched the whole situation unfold out of his back alley window, the suspect came out, put his hands up, and surrendered.

Police had to use tear gas and flash bangs to get him to come out of the home.
