SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A student who allegedly took a gun to Clay International Academy on Monday was arrested and has been suspended, according to the South Bend Community School Corporation and St. Joseph County Police.
The school district says administrators learned during dismissal that a student had a gun and contacted police.
St Joseph County Police responded around 3:45 p.m. and took the 13-year-old male to the Juvenile Justice Center for the gun possession, police said.
According to the district, the student who brought the gun to school and other students allegedly involved were suspended and may face additional disciplinary action.
Letter to be sent to parents on Tuesday:
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Yesterday afternoon at dismissal, school administration discovered that a student was in possession of a gun. School personnel took every precaution to ensure student safety was maintained at all times.
The student who brought the weapon to school and other students involved have been suspended and may face additional disciplinary action. Everyone at Clay International Academy must remain vigilant to ensure a safe school. Please remind your student if they “see something, say something”
