Police: Thief takes tractor and trailer from Michigan farmer's field

HARTFORD, Mich. -- The Van Buren County Sheriff's Department is looking to catch a thief.



Deputies responded to Meachum Farms on Friday after a farmer reported that some of his equipment had been stolen.



Police said the thief took a tractor and trailer right out of the farmer's field. It happened overnight sometime between 5 p.m. on Thursday and Friday at 7 a.m. when employees discovered them to be missing.



The stolen property was a 1978 John Deere 2440 tractor, along with a 18-foot flat bottom trailer which were used for hauling tomato crates out of the field.



The farmer enclosed photos of replicas of the equipment.
