CASSOPOLIS, Mich. -- The Cassopolis Police Department is reporting a 2020 Ford Explorer with official police markings was stolen during an arrest and the suspect is still at large. They are considered armed and dangerous.
Authorities say an arrest was taking place around 1 p.m. on May 28 when the suspect managed to flee in the vehicle belonging to the Cassopolis Police Department.
"The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 43 years old, 5'4", 200 pounds with blonde hair and blue eyes," the CPD said.
"At this time, he is considered armed and dangerous."
While the incident reportedly happened at 1 p.m., CPD alerted the public roughly four hours later at 4:50 p.m., and it is unclear if local schools were notified of the suspect on the loose.
The incident remains under active investigation and enforcement agencies across the region have been notified. Authorities say they are assisting in locating the suspect and recovering the vehicle.
Police ask that if you see this vehicle or the suspect, do not approach them.
"Call 911 immediately," the CPD said. "Public safety is our top priority. We ask residents to remain alert, report any suspicious activity, and allow enforcement to handle the situation with caution and care."
