Pope Benedict XVI to resign at end of month

VATICAN CITY — The Vatican has confirmed that Pope Benedict XVI will step down at the end of the month. The Pope told the Cardinals of the Catholic Church he is resigning "because of advanced age."

Pope Benedict XVI became the 265th pope in 2005.

The last time a Pope resigned was Pope Gregory XII in 1415.

The Pope will turn 86 on April 16.
