Portage Lakefront Pavilion at Indiana Dunes closed for renovations
PORTER COUNTY, Ind. -- Indiana Dunes National Park has announced the temporary closure of the Portage Lakefront Pavilion while crews work to renovate the interior.
"Your fee dollars are at work on stunning Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk Pavilion at Indiana Dunes National Park," Park officials said. "The interior of the pavilion will receive a fresh coat of paint and a new flooring will be installed. Cabinets will also be constructed in the classroom area."
Crews say the construction has closed the facility to the public and will continue through the end of the month. During that time, access to the beach, trails, and breakwater will still be available to the public.
The Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk first opened in October of 2008.
"The 3,500 square foot public pavilion includes restrooms, a seasonal snack bar, and a glass walled classroom/multi-purpose space," park officials said. "This unique classroom space is available for short-term rentals; the price varies by duration and day of activity, between $200 and $400."
