Potawatomi Zoo celebrates birth of rare female takin

The Potawatomi Zoo welcomed a female Sichuan Takin on March 1.

The newborn will go on display this weekend along with its mother Mulan and brother Sonam.

A takin is an antelope-like goat and a relative of the musk ox, according to the zoo.

In the wild, the takin lives in the bamboo forests of China.

The zoo is open for its final Winter Days on March 5 from noon to 3 p.m. Admission is $5.50 for adults, 2 and under are free.

The zoo opens for the season on Friday, April 1.
