Power outage costs downtown South Bend an estimated $3M

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The power outage that affected downtown South Bend for nearly three full days cost the city an estimated $3 million, according to Downtown South Bend.

"We were looking into things like lost inventory, lost sales, and lost productivity," said Aaron Perri, the Executive Director of Downtown South Bend.

Those specific numbers came from businesses like Indiana Rug Co. and Textile Fabrication Inc.

Store Manager Lindsay Vest said the power outage hurt business during one of their busiest weekends.

"After such a long hard winter, everyone was ready for that, and then we just kind of got the rug pulled out from underneath us and we weren't able to do that," said Vest.

With the official numbers of the loss, businesses are looking towards summer to make up for the loss.
