Powerful storm rips through Northwest Indiana

Hundreds are without power from Gary to Merrillville after a powerful microburst cut a path of destruction that toppled trees and knocking down power lines.

Heavy winds also tore off the roof of an apartment complex.

"It looks like something out of an action movie," Kaye Mathis said. Mathis' apartment was damaged in the storm.

The apartment is currently padlocked for safety.

The winds also sent pieces of wood smashing into parked cars.

"There was a knock on my door, it was my neighbor saying the roof is on top of your car," Rozetta Evans. Evans car was damaged in the storm.

NIPSCO says they hope to have power fully restored by Friday.
