Prairie Vista Elementary awarded National Blue Ribbon School

Ten schools in Indiana have been recognized as National Blue Ribbon Schools, but one school is here in St. Joseph County.

The award is based on overall academic excellence of progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.

This is the second time Prairie Vista Elementary School has been given the national honor, with the first time being in 1996-97.

Tuesday at 1:30, Principal Keely Twibel held a special assembly for students and educators to tell them the exciting news.

“This is a remarkable accomplishment for our students and teaching staff,” said Twibell.  “This award belongs to all of us because it is the combination of talented educators, energetic students, committed parents, and a supportive community and school district that makes Prairie Vista such an outstanding school.  They strive for excellence. They just go above and beyond everyday to make sure that the students are learning and growing. “

St. Pius X Catholic School in Granger was also awarded with the Blue Ribbon award.
