BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. - Berrien Springs native, Dr. Loren Hamel is stepping down after 40 years with the hospital, to spend more time with his family.
Dr. Hamel's last day will be June 30.
He says he believes he is leaving the hospital in a good place.
D. Hamel sat down with us today to talk about his tenure, the pandemic, and the state of healthcare now.
"You know, it is really impactful when what you're doing is caring for your family, for your friends, for your neighbors, you know, and only trying to help save lives during that pandemic. So, it was such a privilege to be in healthcare in those very important years," said Dr. Hamel.
Dr. Hamel says he's not sure who the health system board will name as his replacement but says he's confident the system is in great hands, and whoever comes in next will take the health system into the future.
