Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow

Punxsutawney Phil made his annual weather prediction Monday morning in Pennsylvania.

He saw his shadow and predicted six more weeks of winter.

Since the groundhog's first prediction in 1887, Phil has seen his shadow 101 times and has not seen it 17 times.

There are nine missing years in the record.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says Groundhog Day originated as an ancient celebration of the mid-point between the winter solstice and spring equinox.
