UPDATE: Notre Dame confirmed its Purdue games in 2027 and 2028 will now be played against Illinois.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A notable rivalry game for the Fighting Irish will not happen next season.

Purdue Football announced it is swapping out its 2027 matchup against Notre Dame for a game against West Virginia. A release from Purdue cited "schedule movement involving multiple schools" as the reason.

Purdue officials say an exact date for the return of the Notre Dame/Purdue series will be announced at a later date.

A schedule slot is now open for the 2027 Notre Dame season.
