Quick response saves home from fire

St. Joseph County, Indiana -- Fire investigators are looking into a suspicious fire. Flames sent three residents out of their Saint Joseph County home Thursday night.

Warren Township firefighters said the only reason the house is still standing, is because they were so fast to respond, and able to control the fire within 15-minutes.

"The goal is life safety first and then property conservation second. When you can protect someones livelihood or home and personal belongings are not damaged that is a good thing" said Warren Twp. Firefighter Steve Downy.

It was a single story home that caught fire, and emergency crews had to shut down part of U.S. 20 while battling the blaze.

A spokesman for the Warren County Fire Department says the residents were offered a place to stay with the Red Cross. The fire was contained by 11:30 pm.
