Raw sewage leak closes beaches in New York

WESTCHESTER, N.Y. — Some New Yorkers looking to beat the heat will have to find another way thanks to sewage leak.

The leak is under a creek bed along the Westchester Sound Shore.

Officials have closed the beaches for swimming, forcing those looking for a place to cool off to look somewhere else.

Crews have been trying to fix the problem since Monday, but high tide has become a problem for repairs.

The beaches may be closed even after the leak is fixed.

The health department says it will have to sample the water to make sure it is safe before reopening.
