Red Cross in need donors after summer shortage, says organization

The American Red Cross is urging the community to give blood and platelets this fall to help restock the shelves after a significant blood shortage this summer.

“September is National Preparedness Month and we urge eligible donors to make an appointment now to give blood or platelets,” says Rodney Wilson, communications manager of the Red Cross Indiana-Ohio.

The organization says donors of all blood types are needed as blood products are distributed to hospitals almost as quickly as they come in.

There are many upcoming donation opportunities across Michiana through the months of September and October.
