Report: Countrywide influenced lawmakers with "sweetheart" loans

A three-year investigation found Countrywide Financial bought influence on Capitol Hill by issuing hundreds of "sweetheart" loans to members of Congress and other government employees.

According to the report from house oversight committee, members of this so-called "VIP program" received perks, including lower loan rates, quick loan processing and less rigid, underwriting standards.

Some Congress members are firing back, issuing statements that they were never aware of the special treatment program.
