Report: Cruise to Cuba not an option for Cuban-born citizens

The first cruise ship to offer a trip to Cuba will not allow Cuban-born individuals on board.

The Miami Herald and WSVN are reporting Carnival Cruise Line's Fathom is the first cruise line to be given approval to travel to Cuba from the US.

Trips will begin on May 1.

However, according to an article by the Miami Herald, if you are a Cuban-born American,  you won't be able to buy a ticket.

According to WSVN, Carnival released a statement: "It is our policy to obey the regulations and laws of the countries we sail to around the world. However, we have requested a reconsideration of this regulation. We understand and empathize with the concerns being voiced and will continue to work the issue with Cuban officials."

On the Fathom website, there is no statement about whether Cuban-born Americans can purchase a ticket.
