Resident, 2 dogs killed in house fire
One person died and another escaped unharmed after a fire broke out at their residence early Monday morning, according to the Fulton County Sheriff's Department.
Around 4:30 a.m., Fulton County dispatch received a call about a fire at 4058 E. 700 n in Rochester.
Multiple fire departments, EMS and the Fulton County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene.
When they arrived, firefighters tried to enter the residence but were forced back because of smoke and fire.
One resident, Paula Fruitt, got out of the home through a bedroom window. She did not suffer any injuries that required medical treatment.
A man inside the residence who was not able to get out was identified as 61-year-old Charles Fruitt.
The sheriff's department says his preliminary cause of death is smoke inhalation. An autopsy will be conducted Tuesday.
The cause of the fire has been ruled accidental. The preliminary cause was electrical in nature.
The couple also lost two of their 3 dogs in the fire.
