ELKHART, Ind. -- Elkhart residents gathered at Civic Plaza on Saturday to demand transparency and independent oversight following allegations of local law enforcement misconduct in response to the fatal police shooting of Bryan Axel Ramirez Gomez.
Family, supporters, and civil rights advocates came out in support of finding justice for Bryan and taking the first steps in seeking answers from the Elkhart Police Department.
Melissa Kauffman, Candidate for Indiana House District 21, stated, "The only one who benefits from that video not being shown is the police department and the prosecutor. They're the only ones who benefit. If the facts are what the facts are, and the video supports the facts, a police department could simply release the video."
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and is being led by the Elkhart County Homicide unit.
