MISHAWAKA, Ind. - A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Friday, for the brand-new inclusive playground and splash pad at Battell Park in Mishawaka.
Phil Blasko, Battell Park superintendent, stated, "Over the years, we've been really focused on trying to go one by one and re-inventing our park system, and so this was just up next."
The goal is to make sure children with any ability or disability can take full advantage of the park. They've added a merry go round with room for wheelchairs.
They also have a sensory wall for children with autism.
They say the new look will help kids have fun, while parents can easily keep an eye on them.
Blasko continued, "If you are a parent, and you have kids here, and they're playing on the playground and they want to go to the splash pad, you can see both areas we didn't want them to be separated. And prior to this, they were separated. The splash pad was in one area and the playground was in another and so now we have brought them together.".
Next up for renovation in Mishawaka is Crawford Park.
They're adding a new playground splashpad pavilion there too.
