Riley High School Marching Band headed to Sugar Bowl

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Some lucky South Bend high schoolers are getting ready to fly south for the winter, at least for a few days. The Riley High School Marching Band is headed to New Orleans to play at the Sugar Bowl.

This marks the seventh time the band has played at the Sugar Bowl.

ABC57 talked with students and they said they are looking forward to performing on the national stage.

"It's the biggest opportunity I have ever had with the band," Olivia Lianez. "I'm so glad that we can go. I'm a little nervous, but we've practiced the music for five months now. So everything is memorized."

The 2013 All State Sugar Bowl features the Louisville Cardinals and the Florida Gators. Kick-off is set for Jan. 2 at 8:30 p.m. and will air on ESPN.

The 135 member band will leave on Saturday.
