Riley senior Greer to play with USA Football
South Bend Riley High School's Harrington Greer will be traveling down to Texas after the New Year to showcase his talents on a national stage.
This past weekend, the senior accepted an invitation to play with USA Football.
"It's just a great opportunity," he told ABC57 on Wednesday. "I'm so excited."
He'll be a part of the U-19 Select team playing wide receiver at AT&T Stadium, the home of the Dallas Cowboys.
"It's great because you're on the field with different players and people from around the country. We're all coming to try and compete."
The Riley Wildcats put together a successful season, posting a winning record and earning a playoff win to open sectionals. That thrill was heightened when Greer received word that he had a chance to try out for USA Football.
"I came home from school and they sent me the letter in the mail," he said. "I signed up for it and had to go through a process to get it."
That process included two try-out stages in Indianapolis and Canton before the final invitation. He said the accomplishment was made possible by hard work, in hopes that he could open some eyes to his talent.
"[I just] worked on my game, took the time off the field to go do stuff on my own," said Greer. "It was the mentality to keep going hard in everything I do. [It's] really to just get my name to be out there, so coaches can know who I am and to show my skill."
Greer's U-19 team will gather on January 8 for practice, leading up to "International Bowl IX" against Team Nordic from Canada on January 12.
