Rise Up Academy back open for school-year

An alternative school that barely escaped a state take-over is back open.

Thursday marked the first day of classes at Rise Up Academy in South Bend. The school started a week before other South Bend schools. Rise Up’s principal said their first day went smoothly.

"The band is actually way older than football,” said Assistant Band Director, Larry Dwyer. “We were there at the first home football game and we've been at every one ever since.”

The camp runs through Monday. Hopefuls will soon find out who made the cut.
