Rollover crash involving a semi sends two to hospital

A rollover accident involving a semitrailer and a car puts two drivers in the hospital Tuesday afternoon.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Department says the crash happened at approximately 2:56 p.m. at the intersection of Marcellus Highway and Decatur Road.

Upon preliminary investigation, deputies reported 21-year-old Sarah Cullen was travelling northbound on Decatur Road and allegedly failed to yield to a semi driven by 33-year-old Jeremy Gardner travelling eastbound on Marcellus Highway.

Gardner told deputies that he tried to avoid Cullen’s vehicle but could not do so, causing Gardner’s semi to jack-knife on the north side of Marcellus Highway and Cullen’s car to spin then flip onto its roof.

Both drivers were taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.

According to deputies, the crash remains under investigation but alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
