NOW: Salvation Army kicks off the holiday season with Red Kettle donations

ELKHART, Ind. -- The Salvation Army in Elkhart will host its Red Kettle Kickoff event this morning, November 2.

The event commences the holiday season as the Salvation Army prepares for another season of giving back to the community.

The Red Kettle Kickoff event will feature remarks from community sponsors, getting people excited about the organization's Christmas season efforts.

Light refreshments will be served beginning at 10:45 a.m. followed by speeches from local sponsors and Salvation Army leaders.

The community is invited to attend the event at the Salvation Army in Elkhart on Main Street, where they can connect with others who share the same goals of bettering their community.

While Red Kettle donations help fund the Salvation Army's Christmas assistance program, some of those dollars may also end up helping families down the road as well.

The Salvation Army offers other resources like assistance with rent or other bills, funds for household items like toilet paper or soap, and even clothes or educational and recreational expenses for families.

It also hosts a food pantry, providing supplementary food for families based on their family size.

The organization can also help with transportation to work for those who may need it, or assist in a job search for those still looking for a new job.

All of this is made possible through donations from sponsors and the donations left by neighbors in the red kettles.
