SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Salvation Army Kroc Center is one of the newly established cooling centers for residents enduring extreme temperatures.
Director of Marketing, Ken Lavery, said the center wanted to offer a safe haven for people to stay out of the heat.
"We just thought that there was a real need for it on this side of town. We know there are others across town as well, but we thought we would help in our local community," Lavery said.
In the wake of severe storms across the Michiana area, the Kroc Center provides a safe haven for those in South Bend.
"Anyone can come here, especially with the power outages that just happened," Lavery said.
More information about the Salvation Army Kroc Center can be found on the South Bend location's website.
