Salvation Army makes Christmas special for 100 families

ELKHART, Ind. – Over a hundred families picked up Christmas presents and food at the Salvation Army Friday as part of the Adopt-A-Family program. Those who picked up the donations said they were extremely grateful and very blessed.

Over a hundred families in Elkhart have an extra reason to be grateful.

Michael Beasley arrived at the Salvation Army Adopt-A-Family pick up to find 4 brand new bikes, a car full of presents and groceries waiting for him.

"Christmas is going to be spectacular. This is probably one of the best Christmas' that I can think of. I mean just with gifts and everything, it's wonderful and I'm truly thankful,” said Beasley.

Sandie Love and James Davis were also among the adopted families picking up their donations.

For their 3 children, Christmas was going to be sparse.

"This year has been a down year for me. I've been out of work for a whole year and we had been praying to the lord that he would bring us a blessing. And this truly is a blessing for my three kids because it's been tough this year,” said Davis.

For both Beasley and Davis, the biggest thanks goes to the families who generously donated.

The Salvation Army says that the number of adopted families is down this year compared to the past, but they're still grateful for the many organizations and families who donated this year.
